Tommaso Sixth Sense Tri Bike: When Tommaso decided to develop a triathlon bike they set a huge goal and went after it. Not only where they going to make the best carbon tri bike for the customer they were going to take it to Ironman and race it as part of the development! The Tommaso Sixth Sense carbon triathlon bike is the result of thousands of training miles and years of experience racing, building and fitting tri bikes. The name “Sixth Sense” came from a video shot after a race when the product manager joked he was going to call the bike the Sixth Sense because “when he got on the bike course and looked up the road all he saw was dead people.”  Did we mention the Tommaso guys are a little competitive?

The result is the Tommaso Sixth Sense. The Sixth Sense is the answer to all the other brands out there with starting price points around $5,000! Is there real gold in there decals? Just because triathlon has the highest income of all the cycling disciplines doesn’t mean you have to rob everyone. There’s more to tri than just the bike. There are gym fees for the pool, running shoes, race-fees and for some, coaching fees. Tommaso made this bike at such a great price you will be able to afford the rest.

When it came to components on the Tommaso Sixth Sense the product team chose Shimano for its reliability and well know name for quality. For the Sixth Sense you will find the new Shimano Dura-Ace 7900 rear derailleur with a Dura Ace front derailleur and Shimano Dura-Ace 10-speed shifters handily located on the FSA R-Bend tri extensions. For the power to the pedal you will find the FSA Gossamer aluminum 53/39 crank for throwing down the torque. Tommaso has pro triathlete James Hadley tearing it up on his Sixth Sense for the 2010 season. This bike is going to take on all comers.

The cockpit of the bike is the legendary FSA Vision base bar and wind cheating aero R-bend extensions. These will keep you low, comfortable and cutting through the wind. The Shimano Dura-Ace 10-speed shifters will be at your finger tips for optimal gear choice and the Tommaso bar wrap will dampen the vibration and supply a nice grip for those wet hands fresh off the swim. The Mavic wheels are equipped with a Shimano 12x25 10-speed cassette and Hutchinson Equinox 700x23 tires. The perch for this fast machine is a custom designed tri saddle with just enough extra padding on the nose for those long days. The tail of the saddle has a slight kick for pushing the speed on the flats.

The Tommaso Frame

The Tommaso Sixth Sense starts with a wind cheating aero shaped 1260 gram 12K frame and extended seat mast with a deep wheel cut-out on the rear wheel. This ensures that the rider gets the lightest, strongest, best performing and fitting frame for the dollar. The steeper tri geometry places the rider in the optimum position for steady handling, speed and comfort. The Sixth Sense has a two position carbon seat post that fits into the extended seat mast. The carbon aero bladed fork matched is tucked into the frame for a sleek package. The tri geometry is spot on for miles of comfort and better handling. One of the most important (and overlooked) aspects of a good tri bike is the stability. When you are training and racing for tri you will soon learn that eating and drinking are very important to survival. Having a bike that you can count on to remain stable while you are eating gels, bars and drinking Gatorade is a must.

The Tommaso Fit

Sizing a tri bike is no different, or more difficult, than any other style of bike. By reviewing the size chart you will see a measurement called the “Eff Top Tube” measurement, also known as the Effective Top Tube Measurement. This is what the top tube would measure if it was parallel to the ground. It is an imaginary line the runs from the center of the head tube to the center of the seat tube if the seat tube was extended like a traditional frame. Most triathletes ride a smaller top tube on the tri bike than their road bike. This helps get the elbows up on the pads of the aero bars. The size chart also lists suggested heights for the different frame sizes. This is far more helpful in sizing a bike than standing over the top tube and pulling up on the handlebars (which tells you nothing about the fit of a bike). Tommaso offers four sizes to accommodate riders large and small. It will be easy to find a fit for all of our customers.

The Tommaso Feel

The staff at Tommaso Bicycles rides, races and believes in what they produce. Tommaso product guys spend a lot of time riding racing and wrenching. By taking a Tommaso bike to Ironman they know how important it is to have a bike you can trust to perform. Triathlon is all about finding time…quick transitions and a quick bike can make a huge difference in how far up the results page you need to look to find your name. The Tommaso Sixth Sense was designed to be stable through the corners and well mannered on the ascents. The people that were involved in the production of this bike know you are going to be wet and tired from the swim and anxious for the run. Tommaso wants to bike to be the “easy” part in the middle. The positioning is neutral so nothing too extreme to overcook your hamstrings and leave you limping on the run. The FSA cockpit fits perfectly with your arm/hand positioning for miles of comfort and shifting. With your position rolled forward in the aero position a slightly more padded saddle is offered to keep you fresh for the run ahead. The speed of riding a tri bike is exhilarating…the difference in speed from a standard road bike is frightening.
